CONFERENCE: 11:50-12:50 PM
Six students read short excerpts from their papers to their peers and to Dickens Project reviewers, including Jonathan Grossman (UC Los Angeles), Devin Griffiths (University of Southern California), Christian Lehmann (University of Southern California), Jon Varese (The Dickens Project). Question and answer and comments after the student presentations. About an hour, presented once.
EXHIBITION: A Walk Home | All Day
Student photographic triptychs of their walks home inspired by passages from the novel. During the festival, the exhibit will be accompanied by a short student led mapping activity and talk. On view the whole day and at the evening shows as well.
PRODUCTION: Little Dorrit (with A Walk Home Exhibition) | 5:30-8:30 PM
Two cities collide in this portrayal of students' journeys as first-time readers of the novel, and of Dickens.
This production culminates DorritLab, an immersive study of the novel by Foshay Learning Center seniors of the University of Southern California's Neighborhood Academic Initiative (NAI) program in their AP English classroom. In partnership with the Dickens Project, DorritLab hosted intensives, guest workshops and field trips–creating an interdisciplinary, urban-based learning experience interested in imagining what it means to be a 21st-century South Los Angeles urban teen reader of a 19th-century novel.
